Enterprise Europe Network (EEN)
Led a comprehensive research and discovery project to audit EEN's audiences and accessibility and prepare a strategy for them to transform their digital presence.
The Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) is active in more than 60 countries worldwide, supporting and investing in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with international ambitions.

The Brief
In early 2020, JBi Digital was engaged by EEN to lead a comprehensive research and discovery project. The goal of this process was to provide research driven insights and answer key questions concerning the network’s audiences and digital presence.
Key Objectives
- Conduct a fully remote Discovery phase due to COVID-19
- Engage with a range of EEN’s end users in order to understand the network’s various user types, their pain points and their objectives
- Carry out a detailed accessibility and usability audit of the current website, using both manual and automated techniques to assess its compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards
- Create and conduct a series of online surveys to gain quantitative insights about EEN’s users and key stakeholders
- Produce a strategy document outlining detailed user insights, industry benchmarking and a digital strategy for EEN to apply to its post-Brexit operations
Defining EEN's Audiences
Through a series of research sessions and workshops, the team explored the objectives and pain points of the network’s users before collecting their feedback on different areas of the website.
We also created and sent out a series of bespoke user surveys to collect quantitative data from EEN’s key users and stakeholders.
As a result of this research, we were able to clearly identify EEN’s key audiences and unpack each user group’s relationship with the website. We presented these findings to the EEN team in the form of a User Research Report.
“EEN supports SMEs all over the UK and has a diverse range of users and stakeholders, so defining its key audiences was a complex and challenging process. We are proud to have delivered on this brief by helping EEN to fully understand its audiences and improve its digital communication.”

Accessibility and Usability Audit
As a public sector organisation, EEN needed to formulate a strategy to ensure that its website could be put on course to comply with WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
In order to achieve this, we carried out a thorough accessibility and usability audit while simultaneously assessing the website’s functionality and general hygiene.
We assessed the website from two perspectives: manual and automated. This enabled us to cross-check our findings and gain a deeper understanding of its issues and potential solutions.
The full report covered over 3,000 web pages, assessing them against WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
Based on this, we made a series of recommendations on how to incrementally improve the site’s accessibility and performance.
“In light of recent regulatory changes regarding accessibility, it was crucial that EEN made its platform accessible to all users. Accessibility is about more than just disability – it’s about building and designing products which are available and useful to all.”
Marika Samek, UX Specialist at JBi Digital

Preparing for EEN's Transition
With the UK on the brink of leaving the European Union, EEN is preparing to transition into an organisation that functions independently of the EU.
A key aspect of this project was therefore to help EEN define their offering and objectives in order to make this transition as smooth as possible, with a key focus on its digital presence and website.
JBi carried out in-depth industry research and worked with EEN to align its stakeholders into one vision, thus facilitating a smooth transition in January 2021. We then provided a range of recommendations and insights as part of a Stakeholder Insights Report.

Results and Testimonial
The team is very proud to have played a key role in such an important phase of EEN’s development, and look forward to extending our partnership in 2021.
“We are delighted with the results of this project, especially considering that it had to be conducted remotely due to COVID-19. Each member of the JBi team was friendly and reliable, the project was managed excellently and everything was delivered on time and to a high standard. I will definitely be recommending JBi in future.”
