IBM Research and IBM IX are coming together to showcase their new artificial intelligence technology on the tennis courts at Wimbledon this year. The AI-powered system creates “cognitive highlight” reels based on the most exciting moments and shots in the matches each day.
Essentially, the AI powered technology replaces the producers role and selects the best highlights from the games on any particular day. The highlight edit is based on the on-court data and statistics, including aces, speed of the tennis ball, breakpoints won and the list goes on.
The system is also programmed to react to the crowd’s cheering, players’ body language and their scoring data.
The generated highlight video is then quickly made available to watch on Wimbledon’s Digital channels. Wimbledon will put this system to the IBM IX to test the results.
