BBC website complies with EU Cookie Law

With just one day left to comply with the new EU cookie law, the BBC is one of the first major internet leaders to make changes to their website. Now website owners can follow suit and protect their websites from any potential complaints that may occur in the future.

The BBC have chosen to use the accordion method, which is a drop down at the top of the page that gives the visitor the information a warning about the cookies used.

“We use cookies to ensure that we give you the best experience on our website. If you continue without changing your settings, we’ll assume that you are happy to receive all cookies on the BBC website. However, if you would like to, you can change your cookie settings at any time.” You are then given the option to continue browsing, or find out more.

A bit of a bold dialogue, but as a user you have been warned that cookies are being used. There is no indication that cookies have been disabled, from what it looks like they continue to run and it’s entirely up to you to change your settings. The dialogue only appears once, which is understandable as the user journey could be heavily affected if it was there all the time.

It’s not safe to say that this method of compliance is correct, but it is safe to assume that we will see some changes in a lot of websites very soon.
