Design and development of a web-based Letter to Santa campaign to support The Childhood Trust's Christmas fundraising.

The Childhood Trust is a not-for-profit organisation who are dedicated to alleviating the impact of poverty on children in London. 

JBi Digital has been long term digital partners with The Childhood Trust since 2020, having designed and built their award winning website for them in 2020.

Personalised Letters from Santa!

On the back of launching the Childhood Trust’s award-winning website, JBi was tasked with designing and developing a web-based Letter to Santa campaign to support the charity’s Christmas fundraising.

Back in 2021, the Childhood Trust was looking for ways to build upon the impressive year-on-year growth of its Christmas Challenge fundraising campaign, and approached JBi for ideas.

After a series of brainstorming sessions with key stakeholders, we proposed a digital Letter to Santa campaign, and it was agreed that this would be the perfect way to engage children and parents alike, and spread the good word.

Working on a pro-bono basis, we designed and developed a custom experience, using a Mailchimp integration to allow children to write an open letter to the North Pole, then receive a personalised response from Saint Nick!

The priority was to keep the journey simple and intuitive for younger users (and any less digitally-savvy parents!), while ensuring that the campaign pages were engaging and exciting.

The campaign has been relaunched every year and has played an important role in supporting the Christmas Challenge, which continues to grow every year and raised £4,744,965 in 2023, an 18% increase on Christmas 2022.

Christmas themed designs & custom functionality

The letter writing process needed to be intuitive, engaging and (most of all) fun for children and their parents.

Our team of designers crafted an intuitive user interface with new iconography that encouraged users to click through to the ‘write a letter’ page. 

Mailchimp was integrated so that users would receive a response from Santa to their direct email inbox, which was personalised with their name, location, favourite reindeer and more. 

Users were also given the opportunity to share their letters on social media. 

The Childhood Trust also arranged for each participant who wrote a letter to be automatically entered into a competition to win a video call with the big man himself, Santa!
