As we get ever closer to the Rio Olympics this year (less than 100 days to go!), Stella McCartney has revealed the uniforms our nation’s athletes will be proudly sporting (if you excuse the pun) at the games which kicks off on the 5th of August.
This Olympics’ kit is 10% lighter than the previous kit as it uses new Clima technology – Adizero fabric. Another notable change is the removal of the Union Jack, replacing it with a unique coast of arms.
McCartney says she “wants them to feel good about themselves”, wanting “them to like it – visually outside of technical performance gear”. She hopes it will live on beyond the games this year – which may be why it doesn’t feature the Rio Olympics’ logo, unlike 2012’s kit which included the controversial logo.
Continuing to evolve the kit, this is the first time women athletes have had their own kit, before Stella started designing the nation’s sportswear women wore the same kit as men, something Stella says she “really fought against”.
