JBi is Carbon Neutral Certified!

JBi is Carbon Neutral Certified!

It gives us great pleasure to announce that JBi Digital is officially a certified carbon-neutral business!

As a digital transformation agency, our carbon emissions are relatively low. However, we are conscious of the numerous areas in our everyday business operations that contribute to releasing emissions.

Therefore, we partnered with Carbon Neutral Britain to understand all the places where the agency has a carbon footprint. We then set out a joint plan to improve our carbon emissions and to offset any carbon footprint we had through the Blue Carbon Mangrove forest restoration project

Our contribution has not only made us a Carbon Neutral Organisation but has also helped raise awareness of becoming more environmentally friendly in our operations.

Foundation phase: Carbon reduction initiatives

We have implemented the following principles in all of our operations that have helped us to become carbon-neutral:

  • Efficient Coding Practices
    • Implement coding practices to optimise our website performance and reduce server load. These include minimising code bloat, maximising caching to reduce processor usage on servers and optimising images. We follow OWASP coding standards.
  • AWS Best Practices
    • Ensure that we follow AWS best practice recommendations for reducing our carbon footprint.
  • Bot Traffic Management
    • We will introduce a program to monitor and block bot traffic to reduce unnecessary server load and energy consumption.
  • Pursue Paperless Processes
    • Use digital tools for all project management, documentation, and communication to minimise paper usage.
  • Use Resource-Efficient Tools
    • Choose development tools and frameworks that are resource-efficient and have a lower environmental impact.
  • Audit our Suppliers
    • Work with third-party suppliers and partners who are committed to environmental standards and practices.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Commit to continuous improvement by regularly reviewing and implementing new ideas to enhance our performance.

Roadmap to 2040: Sustained reduction and offsetting strategies

  • Renewable Energy Transition
    • Complete the transition to renewable energy for office electricity by July 2025.
  • Enhanced Emissions Tracking
    • Use tools such as the Carbon Trust SME Calculator to monitor Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions, with quarterly assessments for accuracy and goal alignment.
  • Sustainable Supplier Strategy
    • Evaluate suppliers’ environmental commitments and transition to a fully sustainable supply chain by 2040. Implement a procurement policy favouring low-carbon vendors.
  • Procurement and Waste
    • Reduce emissions from procurement and waste by 10% and establish a green procurement policy.
    • Switch to sustainable products such as recycled paper, eco-friendly supplies, and ENERGY STAR-certified devices. Formalise procurement guidelines prioritising low-carbon and sustainable vendors.
  • Employee Engagement and Training
    • Offer annual training on sustainable practices to support behavioural alignment with the agency’s carbon reduction goals.
  • Increased Offsetting
    • Invest in high-quality carbon offset programs for any remaining emissions from commuting, digital operations, procurement, and waste. Programs will focus on reforestation and renewable energy projects.
  • Third-Party Verification and Transparency
    • Partner with Carbon Neutral Britain or similar agencies for annual third-party verification, ensuring transparency and accuracy in emissions reporting and reduction progress toward Net Zero.

Looking forward

JBi Digital is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040 or sooner. This commitment aligns with public sector environmental standards and our goals to reduce environmental impact.

To achieve Net Zero by 2040, JBi Digital has set annual reduction targets. Our reduction strategies are projected to lower our carbon footprint by 10% each year, aiming for approximately 8.955 tCO₂e by 2025 based on our total estimated carbon emissions of 9.05 tCO₂e.

As we celebrate our journey to becoming a certified carbon-neutral business, we’re proud to contribute to a more sustainable future. If your organisation is looking to transform its digital presence, please get in touch with us at hello@jbidigital.co.uk!
