Peugeot Hybrid 4 – Website design I like to see

While looking at the best websites of 2012, I stumbled upon a great website design that calls out to my inner geek (yes, I just admitted it). Take a look for yourself and see why it doesn’t only appeal to geeks like me!

Peugeot H4 – HTML5 Website Design

The website makes use of parallax scrolling, often found in website design that is associated with HTML5. The site mimics the graphic novels of today, which are very high in quality. It is clear why they chose to use this medium to market the Peugeot Hybrid4 technology; to take the user on a journey!

Why’s it important to take someone on a journey? Well you don’t always want to give people 100% freedom on a website. If possible, it’s best to influence the decisions of a visitor to generate traffic in the right direction, without them feeling controlled. What’s interesting Peugeot is that they’ve fully controlled where the user ends up by putting an auto-scroll feature. After all, the only way to go is down, so why let the user do it themselves. This feature can be adjusted to let the user read at his or her own pace.

I find the concept absolutely fantastic. The Hybrid4 technology has been packaged as 4 different “power-ups” for the heroine to use in the different situations she gets caught up in. This is reminiscent not only of graphic novels, but also of the driving experience. It’s interesting how they’ve combined two completely different worlds to send one unique message. The combination of sound really goes well with the story too, making it an overall enjoyable experience.

In the end the visitor is taken to a conclusion page, containing social media buttons to share the website. This is an important feature when it comes to story telling, because you would want your audience to share the experience that they just had, all for the purpose of going viral. There is finally the choice to find out more, or click a button that automatically scrolls back to the top of the website.

What do you think of the website design? Did you enjoy the experience? Are you interested in making one of your own? Let us know.
