Teen Opera Singer from Britain’s Got Talent goes Viral!

Last Saturday I was sitting in the living room and the hit show, Britain’s Got Talent was on. I sat down and started watching the auditions for a little bit of light entertainment. The thing with these shows is that, even though it’s the same thing year after year, everyone seems to come back as long as Simon Cowell is involved.

We’re used to seeing the same structure on BGT; a few embarrassing auditions, followed by an amazing one, and for the most part you can spot who’s going to be terrible and who’s going to be awesome. This wasn’t the case for Jonathan Antoine however. On Saturday’s show, as soon as Jonathan and his colleague Charlotte Jaconelli stepped on the stage, Cowell’s initial reaction was, “just when you think things couldn’t get any worse”. One would assume that this comment was due to Jonathan’s short and fat physique. Not only does Jonathan’s weight affect first impressions, but his shyness in front of people would make anyone anyone look down on him. As soon as Jonathan opened his mouth, a powerful Operatic voice came out, making every person (even Cowell), jump out of their seats in applause.

Ever since the YouTube recap online, Britain’s Got Talent has gained over 1.1 million views in three days. Jonathan has now become a viral hit online, with his YouTube channel becoming popular around the world. Jonathan’s performance has people comparing him to the likes of Susan Boyle and Luciano Pavarotti.
