Will robots run your kitchen soon?

Armar-Robot

Inspired by our digital dining experience at the fabulous Inamo restaurant in London and of course our #LOVEdigital campaign, we thought we’d delve not too far into the future and bring you a glimpse of your kitchen some 10 years from now.

Welcome to digital kitchen…

Robots are taking over the kitchen- is that such a bad thing?

Well according to an Oxford University research study, by 2034 nearly 50% of our work will be taken over by robots. We can only imagine that this percentage will double when it comes to our kitchens!

Leading the kitchen ‘robolution’ is ARMAR, a humanoid robot. With functions to move at 25-degree angles, this one can pretty much do the important things we can, lifting carrying, and grasping. What’s more, ARMAR has been designed to learn and solve those awkward questions such as, ‘what should I have for dinner’? To think that this robot has even learnt how to name objects, load and unload dishwashers is a pretty amazing feat; we’d be lying if we said we’re not excited.

The down side is that ARMAR isn’t out just yet, the developers, it seems haven’t got round to getting it to actually turn the dishwasher on, but we’re guessing after that hurdle, ARMAR will literally be walking off the shelves and straight into our kitchens!

LG Home Chat

The last thing you’d want is that your digital kitchen gadgets go wild once you leave home, so this is where LG Home Chat comes in. You’ll of course need to ensure your appliances are of LG make for the Home Chat to work, but once that’s sorted it’s pretty simple.

Say you wanted to start a laundry cycle or check if you’re out milk, all you’d have to do is send a message to LG Home Chat via your smartphone or PC and like the Godfather of the digital kitchen, it’d make sure it happens. What’s more, if you’re going away on holiday, sending Home Chat a message will give you the option to set a time to vacuum the floor, turn on the refrigerator’s power saving mode and set times for laundry in time for when you’re back. Like the ultimate housekeeper, we can see LG Home Chat becoming one of our necessities for sure. Showcased at the CES trade show earlier this year, this nifty little gadget will be coming to stores near you in the next few months. Just make sure your kitchen is kitted out with the latest LG appliances and you can finally forget Henry the hoover!

Whirlpool Interactive Work Top

They do say that the kitchen is the heartbeat of the house; well we think that when this gadget comes out, the kitchen will be the only place where the party’s at! The massive touchscreen worktop will not only be your classic hob but will also connect online. The way it’s made possible is by induction technology, this way, even whilst you’re cooking, the rest of the worktop will be left cool.
The aim is that if you’re out of ideas or suddenly inspired to cook that recipe you remember seeing on Pinterest but can’t quite remember whether it was basil or coriander, you don’t need to reach for your smartphone or tablet. You quite simply open up a tab. What’s more, stream a film while you’re cooking!

So we get it, our kitchens are changing, but why do we get a sense that digital weightloss gadgets are next on the list…

Nutrima Food Analyser

Now this one comes in handy for all of us, after all the horror stories we hear about food not being ‘what we think it is’, horse meat comes to mind. We think the Food Analyser has got us covered in many ways, not just in reassuring us that we’re eating is chicken, but also giving us its weight, its nutritional value as well as checking for toxins and bacteria. It’s nifty in that it’s bendable and easily washable, but what’s more amazing is that it comes with an app that you download to your phone and here you can adjust the settings on the Food Analyser to suit your diet and preferences.

Hapifork

Okay we just love the name and of course what it can do. Promising to help you ‘eat healthier,’ ‘lose weight’ and ‘cut calories’ Hapifork may as well jump into our bags right now. After installing the correct software onto your PC and charging Hapifork for a few hours, you’ll be good to go. It’ll flash and vibrate if you’ve taken too many bites a little too quickly prompting you to calm down and not worry that your dinner might run away, what’s more, you’ll also be congratulated if you’re eating at the right speed. The clue’s in the name, Hapifork seeks only to make you happy.

3D nibbles!

Unveiled at the CES earlier this year, 3D Systems introduced ChefJet and ChefJet Pro, ‘the world’s first and only professionally-certified kitchen-ready 3D food printers.’ Confused? We were too, but these printers simply print you sweets in any shape and size you want. All you have to do is load the printers with sugar and wait, the printer will then work to create the pattern or shape you programmed and mould the sugar into edible sweets. At the moment, ChefJet only does sweets but pizza we’re guessing is not long off.

There you have it, digital kitchen! To think that most of these gadgets will be our reality in less than 10 years is pretty amazing. It seems we’re in for a sweet ride, who said being stuck at home is boring, we can’t wait!
