Social Media and Web Design – How They Connect

If Facebook were a country, it would be the third largest in the world. With more than 900 million users, it’s certainly a force to be reckoned with. And it isn’t even the only social media giant “we also have to take into account Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+. Social media is clearly a big business, and millions of companies utilise it to help promote their work.

Something a London based web design agency can help you with is to link your social media presence with your website design. It makes sense to link the two together so that your online presence is completely integrated rather than fragmented between different sites. Here are some things to consider when you’re looking for ways to link them together.

Use social media buttons

You will no doubt have seen social media buttons on a whole range of websites. These are small links that, when a user clicks on them, takes them to the relevant social media page. You can choose to use the standard buttons provided by the social media sites, or you could alternatively ask your web development agency to create you some bespoke social media buttons that will stand out and really grab people’s attention.

However, make sure you only link to your social media sites from your website if you actually still use them and update them regularly. If you’re a big fan of Twitter but rarely use your Facebook page, for example, you might want to think about leaving off the Facebook link because the content isn’t as active.

Link to discussions

Another way you can utilise social media on your website is by including the option for people to link pages you have written to their own social sites. For example, if you write a discussion post on a topic that’s important to you and the people who use your company, you can include additional social media buttons that will provide people with a link to your page. If you’re unsure how to do this, it’s something your web design agency should be able to help you with.

You could also provide calls to action at the end of blog posts or news items on your site encouraging people to get involved with the debate on social media. For instance, you could set up a Twitter hashtag that people can use to discuss specific topics and then follow along with the debate; this can also be a good way to find out what people are saying about your company. Again, your web design agency should be able to help you if you want to include examples of the social media responses on your site.

Measure your impact

Also, when you are linking your social media presence to your website, it’s important that you measure the impact you are having, such as by measuring the number of people who click through from your social media buttons. You can ask your web design agency to provide you with analytics so you know how successful your social media integration has been so far.
