South Korean singer Psy’s viral video for song ‘Gangnam Style’ has been knocked down from its number one position as the most viewed video on YouTube. The mantle passes to the song ‘See you Again’ by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth, which appears on the Furious 7 soundtrack. The video, as of writing, has 2.9 billion views.
Psy, of course still holds the record for the first video to surpass 1 billion views. YouTube was not prepared for the video’s surprise success, the company was forced to upgrade their system when the video passed the highest 32-bit integer (2,147,483,647).
Curious as to how much money a video with 3 billion views earns from YouTube ad revenues?
It’s estimated that every 1 million view earns roughly $1,000 USD so Wiz should expect a cheque for a tidy $2.9 million USD. Not bad for a video produced on a small budget back in 2015.
